Error saving organization: Name must not contain the '|' character

Issue symptoms 

When I try to create an organization, I receive the error below.

Error saving organization: Name must not contain the '|' character 

Resolution steps 

You can't use the "vertical bar" (|) character in the names of organizations. The bulk import users feature uses the pipe character to associate users with multiple organizations.

A similar error occurs when you try to save a sandbox in which the TyrellCorp account contains this character.
